A rapper is still the hottest star in the rap world.
That’s according to a list compiled by the Rap Industry Research Corp. that was released Monday, highlighting the stars of the rap game.
Rapper T.I. was named the most-watched rapper in the United States on Wednesday, ahead of Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Future, Wiz Khalifa and Pusha T. It’s not clear how many of the rappers in the list were on the same chart.
The rappers ranked among the top 25 in the U.S. in terms of average YouTube views and total streams on the popular streaming site, but their ratings on the major music charts fell slightly.
The list is an effort to better gauge how popular rappers are, according to the RIA.
“We want to help give a deeper insight into how these performers are performing and what makes them stand out,” said Josh Barger, chief executive of the RIAC.
“It’s an opportunity for people to learn about the industry, but also to watch the stars.”
The list includes names like T. I., Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Kanye East, and Rick Ross.
While rappers like West, Drake and Jay Z have amassed massive followings on the internet, the RIB list shows that some rappers are doing just fine on the Billboard charts.
“There’s some people who aren’t getting the recognition that they deserve, but there’s plenty of other artists out there who are,” Barger said.
“They’re making a lot of money and they’re doing it with a lot more than they should.”
