Rapper and rapper Jay-Z is recovering after being shot multiple times at a party in South Carolina on Saturday.
The rapper was rushed to a local hospital but died Sunday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Jay-z is expected to be released from the hospital Monday, police said.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of Saturday at the home of his friend and rapper Kool Moe Dee, according the Charlotte Observer.
A fight broke out between the rappers and two men at the party and a fight ensued, according police.
One of the men then pulled out a handgun and fired at Jay-az, according CNN.
“At some point in the dispute, the gun discharged, striking Jay-Az in the upper left chest,” the statement said.
“The rapper was transported to the hospital, where he died at approximately 3:50 p.m.
His death is under investigation by the Charlotte County Medical Examiner’s Office.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my son Jay-Baz, a man who dedicated his life to sharing his music, family, and friends with the world,” the rapper’s father, Jay-Ray, said in a statement.
“My heart is broken.
I ask for privacy during this time and will keep you all posted.”
In addition to Jay-Az, two other men were also wounded in the shooting, the Charlotte Herald reports.
“It’s a tragedy, especially for his family and friends,” the father told the paper.
“We are asking for prayers and support during this difficult time.
The police are in charge of investigating the case, so we are just asking for privacy for our family and those who are close to him.”
Jay-ez and Kool-Moe Dee, who were both shot in the chest, were both hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, the paper reports.
A man who was at the house was also taken to the police station and released after the altercation.
A memorial service for Jay-Jaz is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
The shooting happened less than a week after another rapper, DJ Khaled, was shot and killed in New York.
